Amendments to Russian military regulations reduce list of gross disciplinary cases

MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Amendments that have been made to general regulations of the Russian Armed Forces in accordance with President Vladimir Putin's decree reduce the list of gross disciplinary cases, a spokesman for the Defense Ministry's department of troops service and military service security said on Wednesday.

"Twelve items have been removed from the list of gross disciplinary cases in the Disciplinary Regulations," the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency.

In particular, servicemen will not been arrested "for an undetermined period," he said.

In addition, the Garrison and Guard Service Regulations now says that a serviceman detained on suspicion of a crime cannot be kept at the guard-house for more than 48 hours after his detention or incarceration. A court sanction is needed to keep him incarcerated for a longer period.

Abolition of provisions that allowed commanders to put servicemen at the guard-house will make military chiefs search for new approaches to the educational work, the spokesman said.
