MOSCOW. July 11 (Interfax-AVN) - Two storage facilities located in the Samara Region and belonging to the Defense Ministry's main missile and artillery department were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday.
Two ammunition warehouses and a loading site burned down near the town of Syzran.
"A lightning started the fire in a warehouse with gunpowder charges and the flames moved to a storage facility with illuminant munitions," a Defense Ministry source told Interfax- Military News Agency on Thursday.
The fire was extinguished on Wednesday evening. A total of 16 fire fighting teams, four army units of fire-fighters and two special trains were drawn to put out the fire, the source said.
"Although no casualties were incurred, nine people were taken to military and town hospitals," he said.
Operational groups of the Emergencies Ministry, main departments of civil defense and emergencies of the Samara region and town of Syzran are working at the site.
