ALMATY. July 12 (Interfax-Kazakhstan) - The Kazatomprom national atomic energy company and the U.S. Department of Energy have launched their second joint project to enhance the non- proliferation of nuclear weapons.
The Ulbin metallurgic combine should benefit considerably from the project, valued at more than USD10m per year, Kazatomprom said in a statement. About 150 jobs will be retained at the combine over the next eight to ten years, the statement reads.
Under the project, "the beryl technologies used in production of Soviet nuclear arms will be turned into a fully commercial process," the statement reads.
The first such project has been underway since January 2002. In keeping with the project, scrap containing uranium is recycled into nuclear reactor fuel.
