GROZNY. July 16 (Interfax-AVN) - Law enforcement agencies and military commandant units in the Chechen district of Achkhoi-Martan have intensified their search for militants who committed a series of attacks on policemen recently.
In the past 24 hours, gunmen in camouflage and masks fired grenade launchers and assault rifles at the houses of three police offices in the district, the Achkhoi-Martan administration told Interfax on Tuesday.
Lieutenant Dishni Kuriyev was killed. Colonel Soltakhmend Shamayev, his wife, Zura, and their son, police conscript Rustam were wounded. Sergeant Aslan Satuyev was also injured in the attacks.
The Shamayevs fired back and killed two attackers.
The retreating militants took Suleiman Idisov, a local resident, hostage. His body, with multiple gunshot wounds, was found several hours later near Achkhoi-Martan. A bomb was attached to the body.
The situation in Achkhoi-Martan is calm, although additional security measures have been taken.
