VORONEZH. July 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The extramural board of the Moscow military district court has sentenced an officer to 15 years in prison for the murder of two warrant officers, a spokesman for the Voronezh garrison prosecutor's office told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.
"The court considered the guilt of Captain Georgy Bykov to be fully proved and sentenced the murderer to a 15-year term in top- security prison," the spokesman said.
The crime was committed at the Baltimor military airfield in Voronezh on July 12, 2001. The captain killed Warrant Officers Nikolai Sitnikov and Vladimir Mashkov, who were on guard at a checkpoint, with an axe and stole a Makarov pistol with 16 cartridges from one of them.
After the court brought in the sentence Bykov's lawyers told reporters that they were planning to appeal the ruling.
