U.S. puts high value on Russia's peacekeeping role - Shevardnadze

TBILISI. July 22 (Interfax-AVN) - U.S. President George W. Bush places a high value on Russia's role in the fight against terrorism and in conflict settlement, Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze told a news conference on Monday.

Shevardnadze received a letter from Bush last week.

"It's a new thing when the U.S. president assesses Russia's actions aimed at fighting terrorism and settling conflicts so highly," Shevardnadze said.

"Encouraging signs have emerged in Russia's position on conflict settlement in Georgia," he said.
