MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax-AVN) - A few helicopters of the Russian Land Forces will be added to the mixed peacekeeping forces in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone before the end of July, a spokesman for the CIS military cooperation coordination headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
The main mission of the aircraft team is to fly sorties in the interests of the mixed peacekeeping forces in their area of responsibility, the spokesman said.
At present the preparation of installations and the helicopter pad for the group's stationing is nearing completion in the city of Tskhinvali, capital of the self-proclaimed South Ossetian republic.
"The aircraft team consists of two MI-24 Hind fire support helicopters and one MI-8 Hip transport helicopter. The total number of the team's flight and technical personnel is 20 servicemen," the spokesman added.
The mixed peacekeeping forces in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone are under command of Major General Vasily Prizemlin.
