GROZNY. July 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The Combined Federal Forces in the North Caucasus carried out a major operation to eliminate a large rebel group in Chechnya's mountains.
Using intelligence, the military surrounded a camp intended for 40 rebels, Deputy Commander of the Combined Federal Troops Colonel Boris Podoprigora told Interfax-Military News Agency. The camp was located in a forest outside the village of Agishty in the Vedeno district. The rebels offered fierce resistance, but all of them, including their leader, were eliminated.
"Their bodies are being identified. The federal forces did not suffer any losses," Podoprigora said.
Another clash occurred in Grozny, where one rebel was killed.
