MOSCOW. July 24 (Interfax-AVN) - The promising PS-90A aircraft engine mounted on new Russian IL-96-300, TU-204 and IL-76MF planes has spent 7,800 hours in the air, Alexander Chernomyrdik, deputy constructor general of the Aviadvigatel JS and head of its Moscow office, told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.
"This is a record-breaking result," Chernomyrdik said. According to him, the PS-90A engine with the highest number of flight hours powered an IL-96-300 plane of the Domodedovo Airlines. The engine's specified service life has expired and it is now under preventive repairs and out of operation.
The Perm engine plant has produced some 200 PS-90A engines so far. The enterprise is planning to produce 48 engines within two years for installation in planes procured by leasing companies. The market price of a PS-90A engine will amount to about USD3m.
