KHANKALA. July 25 (Interfax-AVN) - One federal servicemen has been killed and three others have been wounded in Chechnya over the past 24 hours.
"Private Alexei Losev was killed when the temporary base of the reconnaissance battalion of the 42nd motorized rifle division came under fire," a source in the headquarters of the Combined Federal Forces in the North Caucasus told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.
Rebels fired at the federal base with machineguns and grenade launchers. The federal battalion returned fire, dispersing the extremists, the source said.
A VAZ-2107 car carrying three servicemen of the local military commandant's office touched off a landmine in the Shatoi district late on Wednesday. "They got medium grave injuries and were transported to hospital," the source said.
Federal forces engaged in search and reconnaissance operations in the Nozhai-Yurt district spotted a temporary guerrilla base intended for 100 to 120 people. "The extremist camp was destroyed by an aviation strike from the air," the source said.
