Russia's Aeropribor-Voskhod designing new generation of high- precision systems

MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax-AVN) - The Aeropribor-Voskhod JSO has started supplying high-precision assets and equipment of control over flight parameters to customers, the enterprise's director general Vladimir Kravtsov said on Thursday.

The equipment is used to maintain altitude separation of aircraft on international and domestic air routes, Kravtsov told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"The adoption of new European standards of altitude separation in January 2002 and upcoming introduction of reduced norms of altitude separation in the Russian air space in November 2004 have made in necessary to replace equipment on board several types of planes in operation. For instance, altitude measuring systems had to be replaced on TU-154 Careless and IL-62 Classic planes, automatic adjustment activation equipment had to be installed in IL-86 Camber, AN-124 Ruslan and AN-72 Coaler planes. The necessary re-equipping is already over for most of the planes," the director said.

The planes' electromechanical equipment is being replaced with electronic assets that get data on current absolute and relative altitudes and pre-set altitude echelon as a 32-bit serial code.

Aeropribor produces electronic VBE-SVS-type barometric systems of aerial signals and VBE-2-type barometric altimeters that comprise functions of an altimeter and an altitude separation signal system. The devices feed information to liquid crystal displays imitating the front panel of an old-type mechanical altimeter, which makes it easier for pilots to get used to new equipment. The BSKA electronic transformation block has been designed to align new digital equipment with on-board analogue systems of planes of earlier generations.

Together with enterprises forming part of the Tekhnokompleks corporation, Aeropribor-Voskhod implements orders for SU-30MKK fighters being exported for China, SU-30MKI fighters being exported to India, MIG-29SMT fighters, other planes and helicopters.

Aeropribor-Voskhod is Russia's head company specializing in developing ground proximity warning systems. Most cargo and passenger aircraft are now fitted with the devices; their employment is obligatory in accordance with the ICAO requirements.
