GROZNY. July 29 (Interfax-AVN) - One police officer was killed and six policemen were wounded when Chechen militants detonated an UAZ offroader near the village of Chervlennaya on Sunday night.
Servicemen of the Leninsky district interim interior department were in the vehicle, the Chechen interior department reported. A major identified as Chelikov was killed in the blast. Two captains, two senior lieutenants, a senior sergeant and a sergeant were injured.
The situation in Grozny has aggravated. Militants attacked federal road posts five times overnight to Monday. Tension particularly escalated in the Zavodskoi and Leninsky districts.
Fighters intensified activities prior to August 6, an anniversary of 1996 capture of Grozny by separatists, the interior department added.
