Transition to professional service to cause problems with housing, food provision - top military

MOSCOW. July 29 (Interfax-AVN) - Servicemen's housing and provision with food remain the main problems related to the transition to professional servicemen in the 76th airborne division stationed in Pskov, northwestern Russia, Army General Vladimir Isakov, chief of the Armed Forces logistics support department and deputy defense minister, said on Monday.

"These issues are under consideration at present, and a directive on the matter drafted by logistics support experts of the Armed Forces and Airborne Troops will be sent to troops," Isakov told a news conference.

The transition to professional service in the division that starts on September 1 this year is unlikely to bring about any problems with provision of fuel and lubricants or medical support, he said.

"Of course, the easiest thing to do is to follow the Western pattern, but this would require much more money," Isakov said. That is why the logistics support department, Airborne Troops command and Pskov city administration are working hard to solve the problem that will be brought about by the transition.

The problems should not rise again when transition to professional service begins in other units, arms of service and military branches, the general stressed. "That is why we are analyzing aspects of food and monetary support and infrastructure of military compound so thoroughly, we even think about teaching children of professional servicemen in schools and their staying in kindergartens," he concluded.
