Field commander's archive found in Chechnya

GROZNY. July 30 (Interfax-AVN) - A cache containing documents of a Chechen rebel group's leadership was found in the Urus-Martan district of the republic, a source in the regional operational headquarters in charge of the Chechnya campaign told Interfax- Military News Agency on Tuesday.

"Federal servicemen taking part in a special operation in the Roshni-Chu village 1.5km south of the town of Urus-Martan found the archive of field commander Movladi Basnukayev in a private house," the source said.

He noted that Basnukayev had been recently appointed commander of the so-called 7th front of the Ichkerian armed forces by warlord Aslan Maskhadov. The man is responsible for the western and southwestern areas of separatists' activity.

The cache contained operational documents of the front indicating the strength of guerrilla groups and their tactics, as well as accounting documents and materials of the Nashkhoi extremist organization. Security services are working with the documents and materials.
