Georgia opposed to reinforcement of peacekeepers in Georgian- Ossetian conflict zone

MOSCOW. July 30 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia does not give its consent to the addition of an aircraft team to the mixed peacekeeping forces in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone, a competent source in the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax- Military News Agency on Tuesday

Russian Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Anatoly Kvashnin has ordered to reinforce the peacekeepers in the conflict zone with an aircraft group comprising three helicopters from the Land Forces army aviation, namely two MI-24 Hinds and an MI-8 Hip. The group is to be added to the peacekeeping forces before Wednesday.

"As Georgia has not given its consent to the flight of the helicopters from Russia to Tskhinvali, implementation of the chief- of-staff's directive is in jeopardy once again. The Georgian party has already rejected Russia's proposal to reinforce units of the mixed peacekeeping forces in the Georgian-Ossetian conflict zone with an aviation group earlier this year," the source said.

The forces are headquartered in the city of Tskhinvali, South Ossetia and supervised by Major General Vasily Prizemlin.
