189 people kept in detention center in Chechnya's Chernokozovo

GROZNY. July 31 (Interfax-AVN) - As many as 189 people are kept in the federal detention center in the Chernokozovo village in the Naurskaya district of Chechnya, an official of the operations group of the Justice Ministry department for Chechnya told Interfax- Military News Agency on Wednesday.

"The majority of those people kept in the Chernokozovo detention center are suspected of involvement in crimes related to illegal drugs turnover. Their number is 48. 28 detainees are suspected of illegal arms storage, the same number of detainees are suspected of thefts. 19 people are charged with assault and 13 more with murder," the official said.

Seven people are charged with involvement in guerrilla groups and several others with terrorism, kidnapping and cause of grievous bodily harm.

Four teenagers and nine women are kept in the center. One of the women is suspected of domestic murder and the rest of illegal drugs trafficking.

"Those kept in the Chernokozovo detention center have filed no complaints for tough living conditions. International human rights and humanitarian organizations that maintain control over the regarding of human rights in Chechnya and the state of the penitentiary system have filed no complaints either," the official stressed.

The total capacity of the center is 250 people.
