TBILISI. July 31 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian Defense Minister David Tevzadze and Chief-of-Staff of the State Border Guard Department Kornely Salia flew to the Kodori gorge on Wednesday to check reports on the landing of Russian servicemen near the Marukhi pass 5km from the border between the two states.
The news was made public by chairman of the State Border Guard Department Valery Chkheidze.
The reports on Russians' landing in the gorge were circulated by several Georgian media outlets on Wednesday.
If the information is proven true, Russia's move can be explained by fears of a possible breakthrough of Chechen guerrillas, chief of the Georgian State Intelligence Department Avtandil Ioseliani told reporters.
According to him, there are no rebels in the Kodori gorge.
