LVIV. July 31 (Interfax-Ukraine-AVN) - On Wednesday, the military court of the Lviv garrison declined an appeal from the Prosecutor General's office to arrest former Ukrainian Air Force commander Viktor Strelnikov, but prolonged his detention to 10 days.
Explaining the decision to decline the plea, Judge Volodymyr Yaryomenko said that the prosecutor's office had failed to produce convincing evidence of Strelnikov's direct responsibility for the July 27 air crash or indicate which particular regulations concerning the organization of flights he had violated.
At the same time, the court declined the appeal from Strelnikov's lawyer, claiming that the detention was unlawful. It found that the detention had been ruled in keeping with the law.
By Wednesday evening, the court will also pass rulings for three other detainees.
An SU-27 Flanker fighter crashed during the air show in Lviv, killing 83 people and wounding 116. Both pilots survived.
