CHITA, Southern Siberia. Aug 1 (Interfax-AVN) - An armed officer who deserted from a military unit has been detained in the Chita region, the press-service of the Siberian military district reported on Thursday.

"The officer was detained three hours after leaving the unit" stationed in the town of Borzya, a press service official told Interfax-Military News Agency.

He declined to disclose the officer's name and details of the incident saying he was banned to do so by the military prosecutor's office investigating the case.

The regional police department earlier told reporters that the officer who worked as psychologist was checking the guard. He took an assault rifle and shot at a wall of a nearby building. The bullet hit a soldier in the shoulder on the rebound. After that the officer escaped from the unit carrying the assault rifle.
