Belarussian servicemen to hold exercises on Russian training ground

MOSCOW. Aug 1 (Interfax-AVN) - The Belarussian Air Force and Air Defense Forces will hold command post exercises with live firing at the Russian Ashuluk training ground in the Astrakhan region.

"Belarussian servicemen will practice measures against cruise missiles and airplanes of a supposed enemy on August 8," a source in the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

Two anti-aircraft brigades equipped with Buk systems and a brigade of radio-technical troops have arrived at the training ground, the source said. The total number of servicemen involved is more than 600.

Four SU-27 Flanker exercises were relocated to the Privolzhsky airfield from Belarus to take part in the war games. In addition, six Strizh aerial targets imitating cruise missiles and some 20 ground targets are prepared for Belarussian servicemen.

Belarussian Defense Minister Leonid Maltsev will come to Ashuluk to watch the exercises.

Belarus has paid for the use of targets and facilities of the training ground in due order, the source said.
