SEVASTOPOL. Aug 2 (Interfax-AVN) - Experts of Russia and Ukraine failed to reach an agreement on some economic aspects of the Black Sea Fleet's functioning at a meeting here on Friday.
The consultative meeting of experts was devoted to implementation of international economic agreements dated 2000. The main issue on the agenda was Russia's participation in development of the social and economic sphere in Sevastopol and several other Ukrainian localities where units of the Russian fleet are stationed. The parties failed to agree on the amount of compensations.
"Unfortunately we have failed to find a common approach. The sum offered by the Russian delegation is 50 percent smaller than what Ukrainian experts demand," a participant in the Russian delegation told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"In general, the consultations of Russian and Ukrainian experts have contributed to settlement of this complicated issue," he said.
The Ukrainian delegation was led by deputy head of a department in the Ukrainian Economy Ministry Volodymyr Kolonogov. Russian experts were led by Vice Admiral Alexander Tatarinov, chief-of-staff of the Black Sea Fleet. Russia's Consul General in Sevastopol Alexei Sviridov and chief advisor of the Russian embassy Vladimir Muzychenko were members of the delegation, too.
