Rebels in Grozny get anti-aircraft launchers - servicemen

GROZNY. Aug 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Rebels in Grozny have received a shipment of Igla shoulder-held anti-aircraft launchers, Russian servicemen report.

"As far as the federal forces know, the launchers were shipped several days ago to the group of field commander Elmurzayev," a source in the central military commandant's office of Grozny told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.

Elmurzayev's rebels mostly operate in the Zavodskoi district of the city, he said.

Extremists are planning to scale up terrorist activity on the eve of the sixth anniversary of the storm of Grozny that is marked on August 6, the source went on. In particular, their plans include conduction of terrorist acts in the airspace over Grozny.

Taking this into account, the army aviation command of the unified federal troops group in the North Caucasus has taken additional security measures.

"Exposed firing points will come under fire immediately. In addition, we have cut the number of helicopter flights on routes over Grozny," the source said.
