CPX starts in central European Russia

MULINO, Nizhny Novgorod Region. Aug 5 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia's 3rd Visla motorized rifle division started a command post exercise (CPX) here on Monday to practice tactics of actions in main types of a combined arms operation, a source in the division headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency.

The exercise is supervised by Lieutenant General Alexei Merkuryev, commander of the 22nd joint-arms army, the source said.

"Participants in the five-day CPX will use maps and go out in the fields to practice control over units of the division and their interaction with the 22nd army headquarters in an emergency period. In particular, they will simulate combat activity of motorized rifle and tank units within a battalion-size task force," the source said.

The exercise will end in live firing within motorized rifle and tank companies on the proving range of the Gorokhovets training center in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

The 3rd division headquartered in Mulino is under command of Colonel Alexander Konnov. The division is organic of the Moscow military district.
