Georgia refuses to extradite Chechen rebels to Russia - prosecutor general

TBILISI. Aug 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgia has refused to extradite Chechen rebels detained by its border guards to Russia, Russian Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov announced following talks with his Georgian counterpart Nugzar Gabrichidze in Tbilisi on Tuesday.

He said he hopes this issue will soon be settled positively for both countries. Ustinov also said that the Georgian Prosecutor General's Office explained its refusal by the need to obtain materials on criminal proceedings with regards to the rebels detained in Georgia.
