GROZNY. Aug 6 (Interfax-AVN)- The Russian military confirmed that the rebel group that made an attempt to cross from Georgia into Chechnya in late July might have included a Japanese national.
"The information alleging that the rebel group included a Japanese citizen was received during an interrogation of Shamkhan Shaipov, one of the detained rebels," Colonel Ilya Shabalkin, a representative of the regional headquarters for the anti-terrorism operation in the North Caucasus, told Interfax on Tuesday.
He said that according to the detainee, the rebel group included an Asian-looking man who claimed to be from Japan.
"Shaipov said that the Japanese national and the rest of the rebel group received comprehensive training at camps in Chechnya," Shabalkin said.
He added that this man has not yet been found among the killed or detained.
