New sniper rifle enters service with Russian army

MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax-AVN) - A new noiseless sniper rifle has entered the inventory of the Russian Armed Forces, a source in the Defense Ministry told Interfax-Military News Agency on Tuesday.

"The 9mm VSK-94 noiseless sniper rifle is used for stealthy destruction of hostile personnel, including those fitted with individual protection means," the source said.

He added that the rifle would supplant in-service VSS rifles adopted by the Soviet Army in 1989.

The VSK-94 sniper rifle has a clip of 20 rounds; its range of fire mounts up to 400 meters. Combat rate of fire is 40 rounds per minute in a single-shot mode and 100 rounds per minute in an automatic mode.
