KHANKALA. Aug 7 (Interfax-AVN) - Servicemen from the Defense Ministry special unit destroyed four rebels near the Syuzhi village of the Chechen Shatoi district, a spokesman for the unified federal group command told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.
"On Tuesday evening a combat clash between the special unit and guerilla group comprising up to 20 people took place at the site. As a result of the 4-hour long clash four extremists were eliminated while no casualties were registered among the federals. Four portable machine-guns and one grenade launcher were found at the clash site," the spokesman said.
According to him, four combat clashes between guerillas and federals happened in Chechnya on Tuesday afternoon.
"In particular, a special purpose unit battled with a rebel group featuring up to 10 people near the Makhkety village in the Vedeno district. As a result no casualties were registered among the federals and the guerillas were dispersed. At present the federal artillery is inflicting strikes on the territory," the spokesman stressed.
He noted that on Tuesday extremists attacked a MI-8 Hip helicopter with night vision equipment near the Selmentauzen village. The helicopter's crew was checking information on earlier detected rebel bases in the area. No crewmember was wounded in the attack. As a result of an artillery strike on targets found with the help of the helicopter's IR imager a guerilla base was destroyed.
