Guerillas blast FSB armored personnel carrier in Chechnya's Shatoi district

KHANKALA. Aug 7 (Interfax-AVN) - An APC of the Federal Security Service (FSB) department for Chechnya was seriously damaged in a landmine blast in the Shatoi district of the breakaway republic, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

According to him, the blast happened near the Dachu-Borzoi village of the district at about 4:00 p.m. (1200 GMT) on Monday. The FSB agents, who were inside the APC, received minor injuries.

Earlier in the day a vehicle with servicemen of the commandant's office drafted from Chechnya touched off a landmine in the Shatoi district center. As a result 11 people died and seven were injured. The latter were taken to the Khankala garrison military hospital. A spokesman for the hospital said that doctors do everything possible to save the lives of those people.

The Chechen prosecutor's office launched a criminal case on the matter.

According to preliminary data, the blast was carried out by a guerilla group operating in the district.
