KHANKALA. Aug 7 (Interfax-AVN) - At least ten rebels were killed in Chechnya on Tuesday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"According to preliminary data, one of them, field commander nicknamed Islam, was the leader of a rebel group subordinate to the Arab mercenary Abu al Valid," the spokesman said.
He stressed that guerilla groups stepped up activities in Chechnya on Tuesday evening and overnight to Wednesday.
"The federal losses on Tuesday amount to 13 people KIA and 11 WIA. Extremists blasted five landmines and attacked federal strongpoints five times in the past 24 hours," the spokesman added.
