TBILISI. Aug 7 (Interfax-AVN) - The forthcoming Georgian- Abkhazian joint inspection of the upper part of the Kodori gorge should ensure the Abkhazian party that Georgia is not going to combat, Georgian Minister without Portfolio Malkhaz Kakabadze said on Wednesday.
"At present terms and details of the forthcoming visit to the Kodori gorge are being coordinated," Kakabadze told Interfax- Military News Agency.
Russia and Abkhazia still insist on the opening of a permanent post for Russian peacekeepers in the gorge "but Georgia is unlikely to agree with such a format for it is not envisaged in any agreement," Kakabadze stressed.
"Moreover, the regular patrolling of the Kodori gorge by officials of the collective peacekeeping forces in the Georgian- Abkhazian conflict zone and military observers of the CIS evidences that there is no danger at the site," Kakabadze added.
The Abkhazian party says that the gorge hosts over 900 Georgian border guards and reservists of the National Guard that violates agreements on the situation settlement in the area.
