Federals destroy four rebels in Chechnya

KHANKALA. Aug 8 (Interfax-AVN) - A special-purpose detachment of the Defense Ministry destroyed four rebels on the outskirts of the Syuzi village in Chechnya's Shatoi district on Wednesday, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax- Military News Agency.

"The clash occurred on Wednesday afternoon. The military special-purpose detachment engaged a bandit gang numbering more than 10 people and destroyed four of them. A signalman, who was a professional sergeant major, was wounded in the engagement," the spokesman said.

A representative of the Federal Security Service (FSB) department for Chechnya told Interfax-AVN that rebels detonated a landmine in the village of Shatoi on Wednesday afternoon. The landmine went off when a car carrying FSB agents was passing by. The agents were heaving for the area of a special operation.

"An FSB officer got medium grave injuries in the terrorist act. He is in the Khankala military hospital, his life is out of danger," the representative said.

According to data available to the unified federal headquarters, rebel gangs hiding in mountains have scaled up activities in the Shatoi district.
