Russian Air Force chief calls for establishing national aerospace defense system

MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Air Force Commander Vladimir Mikhailov said on Thursday he supported establishment of a national aerospace defense system that would comprise all services and assets of the Armed Forces capable of combating the enemy's aerospace assault assets.

"Our stance in this issue is univocal - it is necessary to ensure integration of all information and fire assets combating aerospace assault assets under a single command in order to ward off potential threats and enhance efficiency of combating current and future aerospace assault assets," Mikhailov told Interfax- Military News Agency.

"As the world's leading nations commission promising aerospace assault assets capable of entering the outer space from the atmosphere and back while accomplishing a combat mission, the division of responsibility areas is no longer actual," he said.

"As the organization of Russia's aerospace defense is confidential and under development, I consider it inexpedient to elaborate on the matter," Mikhailov concluded.
