Georgia willing to negotiate with Russia on lifting ban on its planes' flights to Moscow

TBILISI. Aug 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Officials of the Georgian Transport and Communications Ministry will leave for Moscow this week to negotiate on matters related to the ban on Georgian planes' flights over Russia in the daytime, minister Merab Adeishvili told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.

Adeishvili said he had communicated in person with his Russian counterpart Sergei Frank and the latter said that the temporary ban of flights of Georgian planes to Moscow from 8 a.m. to 3 a.m. had been imposed in keeping with the demand of the Russian military holding war games in the North Caucasus.

"Georgia is not going to put up with such an attitude, because the Russian position has a political aspect and intended to raise discontent in the society," Adeishvili said.

If the problem is not solved by negotiations before the end of the week, Georgia may make "serious and principled measures" steps in response to Russian actions and apply tough measures to Russian airlines, he said.

Armenia will be harmed by those measures as well, as Armenian airlines will not be allowed to enter the Georgian airspace for flying to Russia, Adeishvili noted.

The ban was imposed on August 1.
