Collective Rapid Deployment Forces in Central Asia to hold training in late August

MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax-AVN) - A command post training of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces in Central Asia will take place in the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region of Tajikistan in the second half of August, a competent source in the CIS military cooperation coordination headquarters said on Thursday.

"The planned training will be held on maps and in the field under supervision of commander of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces' operational group Colonel Nasypbek Abdybekov in the second half of August," the source told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"Participants in the four-day training will practice application of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces in emergency situations, in particular, during counteraction to international terrorist groups in the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region," the source stressed.

The exercise will involve operational groups of the forces' headquarters, while combat units will stay out of the event.

The Collective Rapid Deployment Forces in Central Asia were established in Yerevan on May 25, 2001 by the leaders of Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The four countries are signatories to the Collective Security Treaty. The forces consist of four battalions and number some 1,300 people. They are under command of Major General Sergei Chernomordin and their operational group is headquartered in Bishkek.
