Chechen border violators should be handed over to Russia - Georgian lawmaker

TBILISI. Aug 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian Parliament Deputy Speaker Vakhtang Rcheulishvili on Friday called for extraditing to Russia 13 armed Chechens detained on August 3 and 4 for the violation of the Russian-Georgian border.

"Today Georgia shelters one rebel, tomorrow hundreds of them will rush here," Rcheulishvili told Interfax-Military News Agency.

He stressed that earlier Georgia was generous enough to accept and protect Chechen refugees but "received guerrilla training camps in the Pankisi gorge as a token of gratitude."

"Georgia with its natural hospitality provided protection to wives and children of Chechens but they seemed to be wanting more and decided to wage a war with Russia hiding behind Georgia's back," Rcheulishvili noted.

Fourteen extremists crossed the Russian-Georgian border on August 3 and 4. Thirteen of them are Chechens and one more is a citizen of Georgia.
