YEREVAN. Aug 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia and Armenia have wrapped up the three-day command post exercises at the Bagramyan military testing ground 15 kilometers from Yerevan.
"Units of the 5th corps of the Armenian Armed Forces and participated in the exercises. Armenian Deputy Defense Minister Lieutenant General Manvel Grigoryan and Russian troops group commander in the Trans-Caucasus Lieutenant General Nikolai Zolotov were in charge of the exercises," an Armenian Defense Ministry source told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.
The two countries' air forces, motorized, rocket and artillery and engineering units took part in the exercises, the source said.
The goal of the exercises was to increase cooperation between the two countries' armed forces, unify methods of preparing and conducting combat, expand commanders' knowledge and skills and check the conditions and functioning of weapons and equipment, he said.
It was the second Russian-Armenian military exercises. They were held in the framework of the training program for the Russian and Armenian armed forces for 2002. The final stage of the exercises started at 8:00 a.m. local time on Thursday.
The first event of that kind took place in 1998.
