Georgian border guards open additional post on border with Russia

TBILISI. Aug 9 (Interfax-AVN) - Georgian border guards have opened an additional post on the Chechen strap of the Georgian- Russian border.

"Having information on the possibility of more attempts by Chechen guerrillas to cross into Georgia, we opened an additional post on the border with Russia," Chief-of-Staff of the Georgian Border Guard Department Kornely Salia told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

He did not say the location of the post and the strength of its personnel.

"We do not disclose the location of the post and the number of its personnel intentionally so that Chechen extremists would not make use of the information," Salia said.

He stressed that several mobile groups has been formed in order to accomplish missions on the state border.

Responding to a question from Interfax-AVN Salia noted that effective interaction with Russian border guards had not been established yet.

"In spite of several proposals from the Georgian party we have so far been unable to establish permanent communication with the Russian North Caucasus regional border guard department," Salia stressed.
