Policemen detain armed deserter in North Caucasus

STAVROPOL. Aug 9 (Interfax-AVN) - An armed deserter has been detained in the Stavropol territory, a spokesman for the Blagodarny district police department told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

The department's on-duty service learned that that the armed soldier is staying in the town of Blagodarny at 2:15 p.m. (1015 GMT) on Thursday. He came to a private house and asked for a permission to have some sleep.

A quick-response group left for the site immediately and detained the deserter. He voluntarily gave up his assault rifle and ammo.

Private Eduard Posokhin was drafted from the Sverdlovsk region. He served in an Interior Ministry unit and went AWOL about 12 hours before the detention.

A restraint for the deserter is under consideration.
