NOVOROSSIYSK. Aug 9 (Interfax-AVN) - A unit of the 7th airborne division mounted on armored personnel carriers and cross- country vehicles in cooperation with rescuers of the Emergencies Ministry on Friday started evacuating people from the Abrau-Dyurso and Durso villages and the Sputnik recreation base that may be flooded in the near future, an on-duty serviceman of the division said told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"According to preliminary data, the second attack of the calamity created a washaway in a levee of the Dyurso water storage, and thousands of cubic meters of water flew into it. The villages located in the lowlands, a nearby forestry and the Sputnik recreation base may be flooded. Communication with them is already disrupted and roads are cut. In order to save the people, airborne units on APCs and cross-country vehicles ogether with the Emergencies Ministry's rescuers are sent to the area," a source in the division headquarters told Interfax-AVN.
