Two servicemen detained for stealing explosives in southern Siberia

CHITA, Southern Siberia. Aug 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Two active- duty servicemen have been detained in the Chita region for stealing explosives, a spokesman for the military prosecutor's office of the Siberian military district said on Monday.

"Military prosecutors of the Borzino garrison of the Siberian military district in cooperation with military counterintelligence and transport police have thwarted the sale of about 2kg of TNT and 14 electric detonators. As a result of a pre-planned operation, two active-duty servicemen of a unit of the Borzino garrison in the Chita region were detained. They stole explosives during a military exercise," the spokesman told Interfax-Military News Agency.

A criminal case has been launched in connection with the theft.
