KHANKALA. Aug 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Thirty extremists were destroyed in Chechnya last week, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told Interfax-Military News Agency on Monday.
"Among those 30 rebels are three field commanders, so-called emirs. Federal forces have eliminated a total of 13,760 guerrillas since the beginning of the Chechnya campaign," the spokesman said.
Last week, federals destroyed nine extremist bases and some 40 cashes with arms and ammo, the spokesman said. 57 people were detained on suspicion of involvement in rebel gangs. Servicemen engaged in reconnaissance operations seized 75 small-arms pieces, some 100,000 cartridges to them, 37 various grenade launchers and 42 antitank guided missiles.
"Chechen guerrillas attacked federal positions, police strongpoints and military commandant's offices 23 times last week," the spokesman stressed.
The highest rebel activity was registered in the Nozhai-Yurt district of the breakaway republic as well as in the city of Grozny where extremists attacked federal forces and law- enforcement agencies 15 times. Federal units in cooperation with local police bodies and military commandant's offices carried out 124 reconnaissance operations and inspections in Chechnya.
