Russian warships to visit Great Britain, Greece, Japan

MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Navy warships are planning to visit Great Britain, Greece and Japan in the near future, aide to the Navy commander Colonel Igor Dygalo said on Wednesday.

The warships will make business and officials visits to ports of foreign nations in order to demonstrate the Russian Navy flag in the World Ocean, Dygalo told Interfax-Military News Agency.

"A Northern Fleet warship detachment comprising the Admiral Chabanenko large anti-submarine ship and Osipov tanker is on a long sea voyage at the moment. It has visited the port of Reykjavik, Iceland and will arrive in Plymouth, Great Britain, on August 22 to take part in celebrations of Royal Navy Day," Dygalo said.

International military cooperation plans for October envisage a voyage of the Azov large landing craft of the Black Sea Fleet and its visit to the port of Pilos in Greece timed to an anniversary of the Battle of Navarin. The Azov is also expected to visit the Korfu Island to take part in solemn ceremonies in memory of Russian Admiral Ushakov.

A Pacific Fleet warship detachment is to make an official visit to the Japanese port of Yokosuka from October 8 to 17. The vessels will take part in celebrations of the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Forces' 50th anniversary, Dygalo said.
