Russia to have three federal arms exhibitions

MOSCOW. Aug. 14 (Interfax-AVN) - Three federal arms shows will be held in Russia starting from 2003, first deputy director general of the Russian Aviation and Space Agency Valery Voskoboinikov told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.

Voskoboinikov said that the exhibitions will include displays of aerospace, naval and ground forces assets. "The Russian government has charged Russian defense agencies with the task of developing an advertising policy to be worked out under the auspices of the Russian Federal Committee on Military and Technical Cooperation with Foreign States," he noted.

According to Voskoboinikov, too many exhibitions are organized in Russia by various ministries and departments.

"Exhibitions of ground-based assets in Nizhny Tagil, Omsk and Nizhny Novgorod have been held recently. A similar event is to be organized in the town of Krasnoarmeisk in the Moscow region soon," he said.

Voskoboinikov added that that the problem of arms exhibitions had been discussed at the governmental level. In accordance with the new concept, only three federal arms shows are to be organized in Russia every year.

The MAKS international aerospace show held in the town of Zhukovsky since 1992 is the first event of the type. Seven shows have been held so far. The St. Petersburg exhibition of naval assets is second event to be mentioned in this regard. The show is to be organized every odd year, the first exhibition to be held next year. The exhibition of ground assets and military hardware of land forces is to become the third event of the type.

The site of the last exhibition is yet to be determined. Two variants are now being considered. The show will be organized either in the town of Zhukovsky in odd years when MAKS shows are not held or in the town of Krasnoarmeisk.

Other exhibitions can be organized, too, but they will not be funded from the state budget.
