Helicopter that crashed in Chechnya carried 112 servicemen, 5 crewmembers - Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 19 (Interfax-AVN) - The MI-26 Halo helicopter that crashed in Chechnya on Monday was carrying 112 servicemen and five crewmembers, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Colonel Nikolai Deryabin told Interfax-Military News Agency.

Before the crash, the helicopter's captain reported an engine fire and said he was going to make an emergency landing, Deryabin said.

"Some 13 passengers and crewmembers have now been hospitalized with injuries. There is no more information at this time," he said.

The helicopter belonged to the Land Forces aviation, Deryabin said.
