TBILISI. Aug 21 (Inetrfax-AVN) - During Georgia's Kakheti 2002 exercises, to be launched in the Akhmeta district on August 25, no operations against Chechen fighters in the Pankisi gorge are planned.
"The exercises' plan does not provide for troops to be committed to the Pankisi gorge," Deputy Defense Minister Gela Bezhuashvili told Interfax-Military News Agency on Wednesday.
The deputy minister added that Russia would very soon receive detailed data on the exercises' plan and geographical values.
"Given the exercises are performed near the border, and to transparency ends, Russia shall be provided with full exercises data via diplomatic channels," Bezhuashvili said.
"In addition, the exercises will be attended by military attaches accredited in Georgia, including those of Russia," Bezhuashvili said.
