KALININGRAD. Aug 21 (Interfax-AVN) - The Baltic Fleet is rehearsing a naval assault in the framework of a training voyage on Wednesday, the fleet's press service told Interfax-Military News Agency.
"Eighty armored vehicles and 700 servicemen of the 336th marine brigade will land on a rough terrain from landing craft of various rank and class. The exercise will involve an aerial landing party assigned the mission to inflict strikes in the maneuver enemy's deep rear, as well as a spoiling landing party and a diversion landing party," the press service said.
On Tuesday, 70 warships and auxiliary vessels of the fleet accomplished training and combat missions in the sea.
A bilateral sea battle was the key element of the war games. A naval assault group comprised of the Nastoichivy and Bespokoiny destroyers and Neukrotimy and Neustrashimy escort ships refuted a massive aerial strike of a naval assault group comprised of the Zyb and Liven small missile craft and a missile boat. A total of five cruise missiles were launched from various directions at the minimal altitude.
The Nastoichivy, which is the fleet's flagship and sailing under the flag of the fleet's commander Admiral Vladimir Valuyev, was the first to engage the enemy. It shot down three target missiles by Uragan and Kinzhal missile and artillery systems at the maximum range. The rest of the vessels in the group destroyed the remaining two targets.
"I am very pleased with the results. The war games showed our readiness for universal defensive actions. Taking into account the events of September 11 last year in the United States, the war games may be called anti-terrorist ones," Valuyev said while summing up the results of the training.
