MOSCOW. Aug 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian companies are exhibiting vehicles for law-enforcement agencies at the MIMS-2002 international automobile show in Moscow, a spokesman for the show's organizers told Interfax-Military News Agency on Thursday.
The Arzamas Machine-Building Plant (AMZ) is exhibiting the GAZ- 3937 Vodnik high-mobility multi-purpose vehicle. The automobile is distinguished by advance cross-country capability and ability to cross streams. The vehicle is powered by the GAZ-5423 engine and has a capacity of 1.5 to 2.5 tonnes. It can transport 10 people and hit a speed of 112kmph on the highway and 4kmph afloat. Vodnik's cruising range is 1,000km.
In addition, AMZ is exhibiting a series of automobiles on the basis of the BTR-80 chassis. Among them are the GAZ-59037 floating off-roader, GAZ-59037A all-terrain floating vehicle for passenger transportation, GAZ-5903V Vetluga and GAZ-59402 fire-fighting vehicles and GAZ-59037 vehicle with the BAKM-870 manipulator crane for operations in extreme conditions.
The Retrostil company is demonstrating the prototype of the Barkhan cross-country cargo and passenger vehicle. Chief designer of the company Alexander Timoshov told Interfax-AVN that the vehicle was based on components and assemblies of the GAZ-66 cross- country truck and incorporated some details of GAZ and ZIL vehicles. Barkhan's capacity is 11 people or seven people and 700kg of cargo. It is powered by the ZMZ-66 engine developing 115hp and can hit the speed of up to 95kmph. The vehicle's fuel tanks are intended for 240l. A modular design provides for changing the vehicle's shape depending on its intent.
"Barkhan's military version provides for isolating the cabin from the cargo compartment by a rigid partition. The main advantage of this version is an open rear platform covered by a tent. Barkhan's commanding version provides for placing six comfortable chairs in the passenger compartment and a couple of flap benches for assault riflemen. The vehicle can carry light armament and tow an artillery system weighing up to 1.5 tonnes. An equipped automobile crosses streams up to 1.5m deep. The airborne version has a removable canvas top, the windshield frame flaps on the hood, and doors are replaced by canvas blinds. The sanitary version is distinguished by a plastic cover put over the automobile's body, which increases the compartment's area. The vehicle has an updated heating and ventilation system and high-quality thermal and noise isolation panels on the body," Timoshov said.
MIMS-2002 will be open at Moscow's Expocenter until August 25.
