Local administration officials attacked five times in Chechnya in a week

GROZNY. Aug 23 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen rebels attacked officials of local administration bodies five times from August 17 to 22, a spokesman for the Interior Affairs Directorate for Chechnya told Interfax-Military News Agency on Friday.

"It has been established that Maki Dekayev, administration head of the Oktyabrskoye village, was murdered in accordance with Aslan Maskhadov's personal instructions," the spokesman said.

A terrorist act against Tumayev, administration head of the Kalinovskaya village, was committed with a goal to destabilize the situation, he noted.

Chechen rebels fired at installations of federal troops and local law-enforcement agencies 19 times over the past week. The highest rebel activity was registered in Grozny and the Urus-Martan district, the spokesman went on.

"The republic's law-enforcement agencies are taking additional measures to ensure security of local administration officials, heads of police departments and military commissioners of Chechen towns and districts," he said.
