MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Federal Border Guard Service has no information about attempts by Chechen rebels from Ruslan Gelayev's group to infiltrate into Russia.
No signs of border violations near the Nazran and Itum-Kale border units were discovered during routine intelligence and ambush operations on Thursday, the service's spokesman told Interfax- Military News Agency on Friday.
On Thursday, the Georgian electronic media carried reports and video footage claiming that a Chechen rebel group led by Ruslan Gelayev was recently seen in the mountains of the Tianeti district of Georgia, next to the Pankisi Gorge, headed in the direction of the Russian border.
"Any information of this kind is thoroughly analyzed by the Russian party and taken into account in the organization of border guard service," the spokesman said.
