Russian official in UN mission in Kosovo suspended - Interior Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax-AVN) - Colonel Valery Korotchenko, commander of the UN regional international police force in the Pec region of Yugoslavia, has been suspended.

He was suspended only until the end of the inquiry involving him, the press service for the Russian Interior Ministry told Interfax on Friday.

No charges have been brought against Korotchenko, Interior Ministry officials said. The colonel is serving his second term with the UN mission and there have never been any complaints against him, they said.

A source in the administration of the UN international police contingent to Kosovo told Interfax-Military News Agency earlier that Korotchenko was charged with several crimes, including smuggling.
